Onondaga Lake Environmental Benefit Project
Pursuant to certain requirements of the Onondaga Lake Consent Agreement, Onondaga County transferred funds to the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board (CNY RPDB) in 1998 to administer an Environmental
Benefit Project that seeks to reduce nonpoint source pollution from entering Onondaga Lake.
The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board has used those funds to hire a local engineering firm, Moffa & Associates, to conduct work at three farms and two urban settings. The five projects involve installing structures and management techniques in an attempt at reducing phosphorus and nitrogen from migrating through tributaries and into
Onondaga Lake.
The projects undertaken through this program are not only helping to improve water quality in Onondaga Lake and its surrounding watershed, but are also helping to identify the most effective nonpoint source pollution reduction methods for the entire Central New York environment.

document.
